Tuesday Truths: Debunking Common Supplement Myths

Writer: Stephanie Watson YaegerStephanie Watson Yaeger

When I started my Arbonne business in May I got A LOT of push back. Many people are flat out against network marketing; others could not overcome past experiences with other network marketers in the health and wellness category who were either pushy or really leaning into diet culture.

I hope you know by now, neither of those descriptors are who I am and what I want you to associate with my business. I am not at all the person to come to if you're looking for diet culture influence and quite frankly, not all of our products will work for every person so I'm not going to pressure you into buying something you won't use.

I became a preferred client using the skincare products and when I signed on as a consultant, I hadn't tried ANY of the supplements except for a few sips of fizz! I was convinced I didn't need them because I eat "all the nutrients" my body needs. Maybe I do some days, but I've found I truly have more energy since incorporating protein and the greens into my life and reducing the amount of coffee I drink has improved my gut health tremendously.

Even with a formal education in nutrition (aka knowing better), I fed into the mindset that I could get everything my body needed just from food. 🌱 But the reality is, as a busy mom running around and prioritizing my kids’ meals over my own, there are days I inadvertently skip a snack or meal. Knowing I wasn’t getting EVERYTHING my body needed every day, that’s when I turned to supplements to fill in those nutritional gaps. This way, even on hectic days, I fuel my body with the energy it needs to thrive.

MORE is not always better. I only use the supplements that I know will benefit my body, and that will look different for everyone. What works for me might not be what works for you, and that’s OK!

Supplements are not a replacement for food, and I don’t encourage you to skip any meals, but they’re a great way to consistently support your overall wellness even when you have an imbalanced day.
